Dr John Tomlinson is a local retired doctor living locally in Nottingham.
Recently, John published his book ‘Noises After Dark’ about his time as a doctor with Save the Children Fund in Somalia.
John explains: “I wanted to tell my story and in the process raise money for charity. The majority of the profits from the book will go to Save the Children Fund. There are many books on similar issues, but they can make for a serious read. In reality, life in Somalia was not always dangerous. Yes, it was a very different culture and place to live, but I also had a number of humourous experiences. My inspiration really came from the local characters, many of whom were local unsung heroes, who despite all the adversity around them, carried on relentlessly helping their fellow man and community. So I dedicate my book to them.”
The foreward, written by Bob Geldof says: “John Tomlinson’s story is extraordinary. It may be one of many stories from the Horn of Africa, yet others are not half as unbelievably dramatic or brave as his.”
The book is available in both paperback and was an a e-book. For more information visit: https://www.troubador.co.uk/bookshop/autobiography/noises-after-dark/
