A Bingham artist will soon be gracing our television screens as he competes in a prestigious landscape painting competition. Tim O’Brien was selected to take part as a Wildcard Contestant in Sky’s Landscape Artist of the Year competition, which starts airing in mid-January.
“While I was hesitant about applying initially, and disappointed when my application as a main pod contestant was rejected, the upside was that it made me eligible to apply to be a Wildcard which gave me the flexibility of choosing my preferred location,” said Tim. He had the choice of Keswick, HMS Wellington, Dover Ferry Port, St James’ Park or Dover Castle. As Tim has enjoyed sketching adventures at sea with the Royal Navy, he instantly chose HMS Wellington on Temple Embankment as his choice.
“While I can’t discuss the exact details of what was filmed until my episode airs, I can say it was a delight to meet presenter Stephen Mangan and judge Tai-Shan Schierenberg. A fascinating insight to see what it is like behind-the-scenes with the production crew from Storyvault Films, who made sure everything ran like clockwork on what was a very long hot day. In summary, it was a great shared experience for all the artists involved. I’m glad I did it and can look back and I can say I was there, and even got the T-shirt. I hope my interview makes the final cut!”
Look out for Heat 5 which is on board HMS Wellington when it airs on Wednesday 11th February.
