Friends of Beeston Station are delighted to announce that there are now lifts at Beeston Station. This comes after nearly 8 years of quietly working behind the scenes.
The contractors hired to build the lifts on behalf of Network Rail, completed their construction work just before Christmas.
Trish Roberts-Thomson, the Chair of Friends of Beeston Station (FOBS) said: “Those passengers who are in wheelchairs, unable to climb stairs, have heavy luggage, or have buggies or prams, can all now use the Station. It’s wonderful for Beeston!”
Trish paid tribute to those groups and individuals who in the past had also worked to improve the Station. “Many others have come before us.” she said: “It’s been a combination of support from Network Rail, East Midlands Railway, the Department of Transport’s Access for All programme, our local politicians, Broxtowe Borough Council and Notts County Council. We have all played our part, big or small.”
She continued: “I hope that many more passengers will now use the Station. With easy parking at Beeston, it is now quicker, in terms of door-to-door time, to get to London from Beeston than to drive into Nottingham, park and catch the London train from there. There’s also much less walking!”
The construction of the lifts is one part of wider improvements planned for Beeston Station and East Midlands Railway has indicated there will be more developments during the year.
