From its modest beginning 41 years ago, the society has grown and is now at its highest and maximum capacity of 75 members.
We normally meet in the Tollerton Parish Rooms but over the last year we have successfully moved to Zoom, retaining enthusiastic support from our membership. We offered training and encouragement to the less technical members and not one has moved away. Indeed, it has provided us with new opportunities with speakers from many parts of the world. Also, everyone gets a front row seat and a glass of wine!
I am in my third and final year as chair and am ably supported by an enthusiastic and hard-working committee. Many members also contribute in different ways to the running of the society and the membership is drawn from across the region. Two members have just moved to Cornwall and one lives in Germany – another advantage of Zoom meetings.
- Curiouser and Curiouser
We are very strong on mentoring and started a development group a few years ago. Its aim is to enable members to improve to the level at which they will gain nationally recognised accreditations. This is not for everyone and our membership varies in its ability and interests.
We are very active on social media with several Facebook groups aimed at different areas of interest. Also, we have just started an Audio/Visual group which will explore ways of combining standard photography with video editing.
Our activities include competitions, technical evenings, shoot outs, treasure hunts, photo marathons and social gatherings where we can get to know one another and talk about anything.
Our new season starts this September. If you are interested in joining, please contact me on the email address below. We usually have a few vacancies each year but our membership is capped at 75.
