On 31 May, 18-year-old Izzy from West Bridgford, set off on an epic challenge to raise money for two mental health charities.
The Pennine Way is a hiking route from the heart of Derbyshire, Edale to Kirk Yetholm in the Scottish Borders. Izzy walked this 268 mile route solo, carrying her own kit, tent, cooking equipment, food and supplies. Her kit is approximately 17kg and she did a mix of camping at some sites, wild camping where there aren’t sites plus the occasional hostel!
The two charities that Izzy is raising money for are Mind and Beat Eating disorders. Money raised will be split evenly between the two charities.
This challenge pushed Izzy to both her physical and mental limit, but it’s a personal goal she was determined to complete despite the challenges of a global pandemic. Having struggled with her own mental health for as long as she can remember, these causes are close to her heart.
Izzy aimed to complete the challenge on Thursday 17 June, but she finished a whole day early on the 16th!
Izzy said, “I’ve finished it!!! I have completed it in 17 days. A day early as well! Although my feet are in agony, I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience and can’t wait to plan my next challenge. Thank you to everyone who have supported and donated, I really appreciate it. Thank you.”
