intu Victoria Centre to celebrate Nottingham’s lockdown heroes

20/05/2020 by Digital Media

Do you know someone who has gone above and beyond to offer kindness to others in the wake of Covid-19?

In celebration of this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week, which has kindness as its theme and takes place this week across the UK, intu Victoria Centre is calling on Nottingham to nominate its local lockdown heroes.

Whether you know a neighbour who has helped collect prescriptions for someone who’s not able to leave the house or perhaps someone who has delivered a daily newspaper, whipped up sweet treats for the street or even helped someone in isolation feel connected by making telephone calls, intu Victoria Centre wants to hear from you.

To nominate your hero, head to intu Victoria Centre’s Facebook or Instagram pages, share who you’d like to nominate and why, and your nominee could be in with a chance of winning a £25 intu gift card to spend in the centre after lockdown measures have been lifted.

For many, a simple gesture of kindness can be the difference between a good day and a bad day and is particularly important to mental health and wellbeing.

Explaining more, Nigel Wheatley centre director at intu Victoria Centre, said:

“We made a commitment earlier this year to encourage conversations about mental health and to reduce stigma by inviting visitors to take a seat in our Chatty Chairs – a safe space where conversation is encouraged. Due to the current lockdown measures, we can’t invite visitors to do that right now, but we do want to hear what has been happening in our community.

“The past few months have been very difficult for many. However, there have been people across the city that have taken the time to offer kindness to others and we wanted to take the opportunity to celebrate these kind and selfless gestures.

“It’s especially fitting that this year’s National Mental Health Awareness Week theme is kindness, because a simple act of kindness no matter how big or small, really can make all the difference to a person’s mental health and wellbeing.

“If you have someone you think deserves recognition for their kind efforts over the past few months then we’d love to hear from you. Remember, no act of kindness is ever too small.”

The competition is also taking place across all intu shopping centres across the UK, with one gift card per centre up for grabs. All nominations to be submitted online through intu Victoria Centre’s Facebook and Instagram pages with judging set to take place on Wednesday 27 May. Winners to be announced on Thursday 28 May. T&Cs apply.
