After many months of waiting and “can we/can’t we,” the lifting of Covid restrictions meant Clifton Doves WI could finally meet again, in person.
We tested the water by meeting outdoors in July for a golfing social at the crazy golf at Riverside Golf Centre, followed by coffee and cake outside from their café. It was evident that there was a desire to return to full meetings as soon as we could.
Monday August 9th saw over 30 members including 6 new ladies who joined during the lockdown, meet up in Clifton Village Hall for a Quiz and Chips night. The first meeting back was a relaxed and informal affair with plenty of time for everyone to catch up with each other. With the paperwork, introductions and business completed, our chippy tea was delivered. Food had been preordered from Savaloyz; it came on time, piping hot and labelled up for easy distribution – however their small portions are anything but. The hall soon quietened down a little whilst everyone tucked in and caught up with their friends. A quiz followed with all answers having the letters NHS somewhere in the answers.
We have plans for the rest of the year with new “cafe club” and “games night” and a revamp of our craft and knit and natter groups. Book club and walking group and the occasional supper club are all increasing in popularity and plans are being made with routes and venues etc.
At the September meeting (Monday 13th September, 7.30 p.m., Clifton Village Hall) we are being visited by The Bottle Top in Ruddington who will speak to us about living more sustainably; Spooky Stories with The Nottingham Storytellers is the theme for October and Beat Feet are joining us in November; the December meeting is usually fun and games with food provided.
If any ladies over the age of 18 would care to join us you will be very welcome. The first meeting is free to attend with a small donation gratefully accepted towards the cost of refreshments. We are active on Facebook if you would like to see more of what we get up to and we can be contacted at [email protected] . We are a friendly group with a wide age range of interests. We’d be very happy to see you.
