Hundreds raised to provide children’s books for families in need

09/03/2021 by Digital Media

An Usborne Book seller has raised hundreds of pounds to provide books to local families to help get as many fun and educational books into the hands of children as possible, just in time for World Book Day which took place on 4th March.

Heather Wass who is based in West Bridgford has teamed up with local charity Sewa Day to provide books to the families that are supported by them.

Heather said, “I passionately believe that every child should have access to books at home, but with the continuing lockdown I’m aware that many children aren’t able to access books as schools and libraries are closed.”

In just under one week, they raised £360 altogether which enabled Heather to purchase the books and give them to Sewa Day for distribution.

Heather continued, “The fundraiser was amazing, and we raised £253 in just under a week. With my commission added in plus the extra 30% free books that Usborne provide for schools, we managed to get £360 of books delivered to Nottingham Academy in Sneinton, Djanogoly Academy in Sherwood and St Peter’s Junior School in Ruddington.

“Each school received 140 books that they will be able to use with their pupils – perfect timing with World Book Day on 4th March!

“I’m looking forward to working with Sewa Day Nottingham again later in the year to help get more books to children for the summer holidays.”

Hetvi Parekh, who leads the regional branch of Sewa Day in Nottingham said, “We will be doing a similar petition for the summer school holidays so if anyone wants to donate any books, please contact me on 07581422396.”
