Homebuilder backs vital blood bikes charity

26/02/2026 by Digital Media

An essential blood bikes charity has received a £1,500 donation from Barratt and David Wilson Homes to support its services in delivering urgent medical requirements to patients across Nottinghamshire.

Nottinghamshire Blood Bikes welcomed the contribution from the housebuilder, which will be used to fund the servicing of several of its bike fleets, alongside fuel costs.

With over 48,000 tasks completed since the charity started, saving the NHS £1,244,527, it continues to work tirelessly to transport urgent items free of charge for its local NHS hospitals to enable the speedier diagnosis and treatment of patients.

John McFadden, Chairman at Nottinghamshire Blood Bikes, said: “Each day we complete between 15 to 20 jobs for the NHS, so that multiplied across a month is not only a lot of blood moved, but a lot of money saved for the NHS.

“One of our goals is to increase our coverage across Nottinghamshire by serving more GP surgeries and transporting their samples to local hospitals. We recently launched a campaign to remind wards in key hospitals to use our service as, due to staff turnover, many NHS employees might not know that they can telephone us and arrange a collection.”

In 2025 alone, it transported 90,717 items and completed 5,103 jobs. Its 161 volunteers and fleet of 17 vehicles saved the NHS £141,435.
