A resident at David Wilson Homes’ The Skylarks development in East Leake has turned her passion for baking into a small business that’s bringing smiles across the community.
Lianne Pople (39), alongside her partner Aaron Dawson (38), have set up The Little Bakehouse from their rented four bedroom Wilford style home at the development – and it’s quickly become a hit with local residents.
The couple moved to The Skylarks in 2023 with their family – Jaydon, Savanna, Miilah and Pandora – having previously lived in Clifton, Nottinghamshire.
During the pandemic, Lianne and Aaron kept busy baking cakes, afternoon teas and Sunday dinners for their local community, earning a five-star hygiene rating that allowed them to continue operating safely.
Now settled in East Leake, Lianne has revived her passion for baking in a way that fits around her caring responsibilities, and with Aaron reducing his work hours to help care for the children, the family wanted a way to contribute financially while connecting with their new community.
After discovering a local Facebook page called The Cake Shed Community, Lianne was inspired to start The Little Bakehouse, selling homemade treats directly from her new home.
Lianne said: “The local community at The Skylarks has been amazing. We were shocked by how many people here buy from the shed. It’s been incredible and hearing the lovely words from customers really means a lot.
“It’s helped us financially, but it’s also made us feel part of the community. On days when we can’t bake due to commitments with the children, people are so supportive and understanding. It’s worked out so well, and we’re so happy.”
The Skylarks, located off Rempstone Road in East Leake, has developed into a thriving new neighbourhood, with residents like Lianne and Aaron helping to make the community a well-connected and great place to live.
Rachael Harrison, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands, said: “It’s wonderful to see residents like Lianne and Aaron making such a positive impact within their community.
“Stories like this show how The Skylarks is not just a place to live, but a place where people come together and support one another.”
