A Harry Carlton School Veterans Facebook group has provided an unexpected phenomenon as locals and ex pupils of the former school from around the world have flocked to the page in their droves.
Just over one month ago, former Harry Carlton Comprehensive school pupil, Mark Lindsay, came up with an idea to set up a Facebook group whereby ex pupils could reacquaint themselves with one another and share their memories. Nothing could have prepared him for the tidal wave of interest that followed. Speaking to East Leake Local News, Mark said: “I honestly thought that my page may attract somewhere in the region of 200 people, but at last count we had just over 2300 members. It’s a truly astonishing number to be achieved in little over a month”
What started as a few people sharing stories and memories, has blossomed into something of an obsession for many people with countless hours being lost reading through the posts and crawling around in lofts for old photographs and artefacts from the former school. Some astonishing recollections and pictures have been posted, including a remarkable hand drawn plan of the school all done from memory alone.
In a time when a little light relief from current world events is a welcome distraction, old Harry Carlton school memories are providing the perfect tonic.
