On Saturday 21st September, Gunthorpe C of E Primary School opened the school for pupils and families past and present to come and celebrate.
The school has been open 50 years and it is understood there has been a school of some description in the village for around 150 years, including the building now known
as Tom Browns restaurant.
It was great to see so many families sharing photos and memories of this special place, at the heart of the community in Gunthorpe.
Also on display, were the ‘design a school flag’ finalists. The community voted and Henry Ward (year 5) will now have his design produced and flown on the village flag pole. Children had also written about life at the school in 2024 and this was contrasted with recounts of past family members who attended the school.
There are currently two families in the village who have had at least five generations of their family at Gunthorpe! Mrs Brown, the Head Teacher commented: “A great day was had by all, we are looking forward to celebrating the next 50 years!”
