This year’s Green Meadows Picnic will return to the Meadows on Saturday 2nd September for the third year running, meaning the Meadows will be a hive of activity.
This annual picnic is a chance for the community to bring friends and family together and enjoy the perfect Saturday afternoon in the beautiful surroundings of Queens Walk Recreation Ground. With fantastic music, family craft workshops, stalls and games for all ages, the event is a celebration of the Meadows community and their action on Climate Change.
The Picnic is funded and organised by the Green Meadows team, a local programme helping The Meadows community to take local action on climate change, run by the charity Nottingham Energy Partnership, and Meadows Ozone Energy Services (MOZES), the Meadows’ own ‘Community Energy Group’.
Kicking off at 12 midday, the Queens Walk Recreation Ground will be filled with delicious food, including hot and cold drinks, ice lollies, smoothies and samosas. In addition, there will be lots of exciting stalls, offering games and activities themed around taking positive climate action, as well as reducing energy use and sustainability.
MP Lilian Greenwood said, “This is an ever-popular event which brings local residents together to both celebrate their action on climate change and spread the message further.”
Event-goers will be able to try their hand at making their own birdbox in a woodwork workshop and learn the essentials of foraging with the Nottingham Forager. If you have a bicycle which is a little worse for wear, why not head over to Cycle Saviour’s Dr Bike for free cycle repairs.
Especially for the children, Makers of Imaginary Worlds will bring their “Adventures in Nature” experience, which offers imaginative play sessions. Children will also have the opportunity to get creative with Dizzy Ink and have a go at seed paper screen printing.
Green Meadows will also welcome a variety of musical talent from live performers, local DJs and Djembe drumming to entertain everyone. Football fanatics and sporting fans can lace up their trainers to take part in Notts County Foundation’s football tournament and sporting activities throughout the day.
With tasty food and beverages available, your picnic is sure to be delicious. If you are a Meadows Resident, you can collect a voucher for FREEfood when you hand in your postcard at the Pavilion. Postcards will be posted through your door in the days running up to the event. For an extra treat, visit Pulp Friction’s stall and have a go at making your very own scrumptious smoothie through the power of pedalling on their smoothie bike!
As well as this, the Green Meadows team will be on hand to offer advice on Future-Fit Homes and how to protect yourself in the face of changeable weather and energy prices. They will be joined by Meadows Climate Champions, who are there to tell you about the incredible community-led initiatives that are tackling climate change and protecting the local Meadows environment.
Based in the heart of the Meadows, the picnic is easy to reach and provides a great opportunity to learn about what is happening in the local area. We encourage you to leave your car at home and join us by public transport or bike – accessible by getting the tram to the Queens Walk NET tram stop, by buses 11, 11C, 48 and 48X or by train, with Nottingham Railway Station just a quick 7-minute walk away.
Bring your friends, bring your family, and make a day of it!
