Located in the Calverton area of Nottingham, Ramsdale Park Golf Centre has announced that the superb efforts of members, guests, and team members has seen it surpass its record for money raised for a single charity this year, bringing in an outstanding £17,500 for Maggie’s Cancer Care.
Maggie’s Cancer Care was selected as Captain’s Charity for 2021 by Club Captain, Johnny Hilton. Easily accessible online and in physical centres around the UK, Maggie’s provides free support and information to those who are either directly or indirectly affected by cancer.
The full amount raised for Maggie’s was accrued at various events throughout the year, as well as through season-long fundraising initiatives. The largest segment of the total amount was raised during the Captain’s Charity Day, which was held at the club on July 17th, last year. The day consisted of a team competition, in which members and guests competed over The Seely Course – which was filled with sponsored tees for the event – as well as a gala dinner. In addition, a silent auction was arranged to follow the event, with fantastic prizes being provided by local companies.
Additional initiatives included a Captain’s charity bunker on the 1st hole – should a golfer hit their tee shot on the first hole into the chosen bunker, the starter would collect a donation from them. A calendar was also produced, using images taken by members around the course, and sold in the pro shop, with all proceeds also going towards Maggie’s. Finally, a ‘Turkey Trot’ festive event rounded off the fundraising efforts by collecting a further £1,000 to the total amount.
Speaking on the amazing achievement, General Manager of Ramsdale Park Golf Centre, Theresa Plimmer said: “We are absolutely delighted to have raised such a significant amount of money for Maggie’s Cancer Care. Our Club President, Danny Harkin, and the entire membership have been extremely active throughout the year and have been relentless in their support for this wonderful charity.
“As a central part of the community, we are proud to have been able to give back to a charity that does so much for people up and down the country.”
A cheque for £15,000 was presented to representatives from Maggie’s Cancer Care, by the club’s Captain and President in November, with further funds being contributed right the way through to Christmas.
