Give back a Cake and Chat

18/05/2021 by Digital Media

Can you help the Rosie May Foundation bring joy into the life of a lonely person?

You may have seen or heard about Rosie, our little Pink Tuk Tuk? Throughout lockdown she has been busy helping vulnerable people in our local community, delivering prescriptions, groceries, fish and chips and most of all smiles.

Now Rosie and our kindness team are helping people anxious about how to navigate the new normal, to ease out of lockdown with a cake and chat!

You can help by giving just £10 a month, the cost of a coffee & cake, so that we can give a weekly cake and chat to a lonely person, helping reduce loneliness and improve mental health.

Mary Storrie, CEO and founder of the Rosie May Foundation said “In lockdown one, we quickly realised that the human interaction of a doorstep chat was as important as the prescription or the hot meal we were delivering. People have told us they are anxious about coming out of lockdown and socialising. We are unlikely to be able to measure the impact of lockdown on society for generations, the new pandemic predicted is the pandemic of loneliness”.

Volunteers will visit our local seniors, isolated and vulnerable members of the community with a slice of cake and check in to see how they are. A doorstep chat is priceless to those people who are anxious about going out. Everyone deserves a friendly face to face chat because essentially people need people.

Christine, a local resident, as seen in the photo with Mary, founder of the Rosie May foundation said “I felt very lonely in lockdown and I really looked forward to my weekly visits. I am hoping to be able to get to market again soon with one of the volunteers”.

Rosie the little Pink Tuk Tuk, delivers to make a difference. Since the beginning of lockdown 1, our volunteer-led programme has given 1592 hours, the equivalent of £13,880 of social value to our local community.

If you would like to donate a weekly cake & chat TEXT 10CHAT to 70085 to give a regular gift of £10 a month.
