Hope Nottingham, the Christian Foodbank and Community charity, announced that The Star pub in Beeston hosted a charity fundraising event 27-29 June 2025.
The event raised a whopping £1,190 from the generous attendees and The Star matched that making a massive total of £2,390.
Rebecca Britton, General Manager from The Star said: “The weekend was a great success and The Star Inn were delighted to be able to support such a great local charity by organising the three days of activities that encouraged people to come along.“
The Star organised the bouncy castle and Lilo and Stitch characters who entertained the children on Saturday and the bands and singers who all provided their services for free. Hope Nottingham staff volunteered their time to go along and chat to everyone about the charity’s work.
Among the many, they met families who had previously come along to the Hope Nottingham toddler group and reconnected with the children who are now at school. Also attending was a Hope Nottingham Food Club member Lynda, who said “I have cut my food bill in half by joining the Club and we’ve started to eat more healthily as the weekly boxes contain so many vegetables, and I couldn’t afford to buy them before”. As notes were being pushed into buckets people shared how they had used the food bank in previous years and how great it felt being able to help fund parcels for others now their own situation had improved.
Helen Voce, Operations Manager at Hope Nottingham said: “It was uplifting to hear what a difference our work makes to local people’s lives. Thank you to all who came along and donated. The money raised will go towards the costs of running our 13 food banks and two hubs. It’s going to be an annual event so look out for the dates for next year! It costs over £650,000 a year to run our services, so we are always grateful to the community for running events such as this.”
Hope Nottingham began as a small drop in café with a dozen volunteers in 2010 and has now grown to encompass 13 foodbanks supporting communities across the Nottingham area, with main hubs in Beeston and Carlton, seeking to offer holistic and life-changing support for hundreds of people. Hope Nottingham holds the East and West Nottingham Trussell Franchise and partners with various churches and organisations including Citizens Advice.
