The Friends of Roberts Recreation Ground is a charity raising money for the improvement of Burton Joyce park for the benefit of park visitors of all ages.
The Friends of Roberts Recreation Ground re-formed in August 2019 with the aim to raise money to improve the park facilities such as the play equipment and resurfacing to ensure the park is safer and easier to use during the winter months.
A member of the group, Laura said, “We are working alongside the Parish Council who own the park. We started fund raising last year and we have raised £3,610 so far through a kids Xmas disco and from donations from local companies.
“Sadly, due to Covid 19 all our fundraising events had to be cancelled in 2020.
“Fortunately, we have received fantastic support from our local community! We have received donations from Lesley Greaves Estate Agents, Delights shop, Westdale Lane Dentist Surgery, LMC roofing, The Lime Trees and McCane Construction. Gedling Borough Council and Trent Valley Councillors have also made donations.
“We have applied for funding through the National Lottery and we were awarded £1000. We are planning to apply for funding via the FCC Community Action Fund next year. We hope to be able to start works in 2021 if we are successful with our further bids for funding.
“Our group is made up of local parents wanting to improve the outdoor space for all local children to enjoy for many years to come.”
