Former Nottingham Forest and Notts County defender opens new Woodborough gym

23/12/2019 by Digital Media

Former Forest and Notts County defender John Thompson is setting up a new gym in Woodborough this year.

The 37-year-old’s new gym is to be called ‘The Training Room’, which he plans to open in a former Methodist Church located on Row Lane, Woodborough.

John Thompson suffered a “horrific” injury whilst playing for Mansfield back in 2011. After rehabilitation and careful consideration, he later announced he was forced to retire from professional football in a 2013 statement.

Mr Thompson said he is “focusing on the future” by growing his personal training business which he hopes to open this month. He said, “It was a pity [my football career] was cut short, I had a horrific injury and the whole Mansfield thing did not work out so I had to retire a little earlier than I would have wanted.

“But I’ve been working for about five years in Woodborough and I wanted to expand the business. I’m working seven days every week and I’ve got loads of clients. It’s a very exciting time because we do not have a lot of services in Woodborough.”
