Five Years of Strolling in Meadow Park

08/03/2023 by Digital Media

In 2023, the Meadow Park Strollers Group are celebrating five years of weekly walks in East Leake’s Meadow Park.

The group was set up in 2018 by Anne Rippon and her mother Beryl with the support of Friends of Meadow Park and Rushcliffe Move and Mingle. Numbers at the regular Thursday walk have steadily increased over the years and on some weeks as many as 15-20 people can be seen gathering for the afternoon stroll.

“We are now a recognised Wellbeing Walk with four qualified leaders, and you can see us enjoying walking and talking around the park every Thursday. Many of our walkers are people who have moved to the village fairly recently and it’s been a great opportunity for them to meet people and find out what is happening locally as well as getting some exercise and fresh air. Lots of new friendships have been made and afterwards we usually head over to the Three Horseshoes for a cup of tea and a chat.” said Anne.

Formal walks stopped for a while during the pandemic, but as soon as social distancing allowed, the walkers were back, strolling the paths and enjoying the changing seasons, as well as organising an annual Christmas Santa Stroll.

Anyone is welcome to join the free walk which lasts 30 minutes. It is flat, along the paths and at a gentle pace. Just turn up at the Millstone entrance to the Park (just past the bowling green) at 1.30pm on a Thursday. For more information you can call Anne on 07913 328971.
