East Leake WI enjoy talk from the Air Ambulance service

18/11/2024 by Digital Media

The October meeting was very well attended despite the rainy weather and a last minute change of venue to the Methodist Hall due to a problem with the heating in the Village Hall.

We warmly welcomed our speaker, Alistair Parker, from the Derby, Leicestershire and Rutland (DLR) Air Ambulance service who gave a very interesting and informative talk about the work of the local Air Ambulance, the helicopters, the equipment and the personnel involved.

It was heart-warming to hear the true life stories of local people whose lives have been saved by the service, which is entirely dependent on donations and receives no government funding. It was They also have rapid response cars for when conditions are unsuitable for flying and are also involved in running the Children’s Air Ambulance, which is a national charity run service.

Our activities this month have included an excellent lunch at The Priory in Loughborough, a get together for coffee and cake at Love and Piste, East Leake, a cinema outing, a trip to the Framework Knitters Museum in Ruddington and a very enjoyable backstage tour of the Theatre  Royal in Nottingham.

After the business of the meeting, members had time  to socialise over refreshments, as well taking  the chance to sign up for this month’s activities as well as our annual Christmas Lunch in December which, this year, will be at Rushcliffe Golf Club.

Our next monthly meeting is on Tuesday 12th November at 7.30pm in the Village Hall on Main Street, when we will be making Christmas decorations under the instruction of Dawn Turner using the glass fusion technique.

Our programme of speakers is  available on our page on the village website https://east-leake.co.uk/east-leake-womens-institute/ or look out for our posters on the village noticeboards and outside the library.

New to the village or been here a while? Why not come along as a visitor, enjoy a pleasant evening and  join in and find out more about us. We offer a warm welcome to a range of events and activities with fun and friendship. For further information please contact our Membership Secretary, Carolyn Barnett, on [email protected].
