At our July meeting we were treated to an insight on “Reading Body Language” by John Smith. His interesting and entertaining talk took us from the origins of behaviour stemming from our ancient survival instincts to how to recognise subtle signs that give away our true feelings.
It was fascinating to see clips of famous people and understand how they manipulate body language to appear in control but can be caught off guard. We all agreed that people watching will never be the same again!
Our activities this month have included a most enjoyable evening meal at The Plough at Normanton on Soar and delicious coffee and cake at Dolly’s on Hathern Industrial Estate, where we were made to feel very welcome.
We were pleased to congratulate our quiz teams on their strong performance at the County Quiz. With 98 teams of four competing across Nottinghamshire, one team finished in the top 15 and the other in the top 25.
Our Cinema WhatsApp Group continues to flourish and is providing an ideal way for small groups of members to join up to enjoy trips to see the latest films that interest them.
After the business of the meeting, members enjoyed refreshments and social time as well as the chance to sign up for this month’s outings.
Our next monthly meeting is on Tuesday 13th August at 7.30pm in the village hall on Main Street when we will be welcoming Graham Keale, a retired business reporter, who will be regaling us with celebrity anecdotes including “Oprah Winfrey Touched My Elbow”.
Our new programme of speakers is now available on our page on the village website https://east-leake.co.uk/east-leake-womens-institute/ or look out for our posters on the village noticeboards and outside the library.
New to the village or been here a while? Why not come along as a visitor, enjoy a pleasant evening and join in and find out more about us. We offer a warm welcome to a range of events and activities with fun and friendship. For further information please contact our Membership Secretary, Carolyn Barnett, on [email protected]
