We were delighted to welcome 31 of our members and one visitor to our April monthly meeting. The new WI year is starting so membership subscriptions were paid and our new programme distributed detailing the exciting range of speakers in prospect, with some old favourites returning with new topics.
Our speaker this month was Matthew Warburton who gave a very interesting talk about his journey from an apprentice panel beater to the beautiful art creations that he makes in Aluminium which was illustrated with photos of his work in his early career. A fascinating demonstration on how he creates his art work followed after which members had the opportunity to browse the items on display and many purchases were made.
As well as our usual activities, members enjoyed a trip to Sudbury Hall. This is one of the country’s finest restoration mansions which also houses The National Trust Museum of Childhood in the 19th-century servants’ wing – a brilliant day out!
We are looking forward to visiting the Star at West Leake for lunch and have also planned two coffee and chat sessions at both Antlers and Love and Piste.
Next month is our Annual Meeting and Resolution Debate and Linda Davey, WI Advisor from the Nottinghamshire Federation will be leading the Annual Meeting elections as well as the debate and vote on this year’s Resolution: “Clean Rivers for People and Wildlife.”
Our new programme of speakers will soon be available on our page on the village website https://east-leake.co.uk/east-leake-womens-institute/ or look out for our new posters on the village noticeboards and outside the library which are coming soon.
New to the village or been here a while? Why not come along as a visitor, enjoy a pleasant evening and join in and find out more about us. We offer a warm welcome to a range of events and activities with fun and friendship. For further information please contact our Membership Secretary, Carolyn Barnett, on [email protected]
