East Leake WI have had a busy summer and come rain or shine our events and activities during June, July and August have been well attended and a good time has been had by all.
At our June monthly meeting we warmly welcomed back Geoff Harris who thoroughly entertained us with his talk on “Folklore, Folk tales and Funny folk who knew that, in the reign of Edward VI, it was punishable by being put in the stocks for cracking open the pointed end of a boiled egg!
In July members enjoyed an evening of cheese tasting (accompanied by a glass of wine or a soft drink} with Hannah Davies from the British Food box. Hannah gave a very informative and amusing account about the business she set up with another young farmer to help finance their time at university, which is now going from strength to strength, whilst also giving us the opportunity to sample 17 different cheeses. We were then able to purchase our favourites to enjoy at home.
Last month, we held a social evening in the Methodist Church hall due to essential maintenance at the Village Hall which saw members taking the opportunity to catch up and get to know each other better in a lovely atmosphere.
We have also enjoyed outings for coffee and cake at Love and Piste, and Rushcliffe Golf Club and meals at the Ferry Inn at Wilford, The Rancliffe Arms at Bunny and the Packe Arms at Hoton.
A highlight of the summer was our much anticipated trip to see “The Bodyguard” at the Theatre Royal Nottingham (photo below), which was excellent, and members thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
Our new programme of speakers is now available on our page on the village website https://east-leake.co.uk/east-leake-womens-institute/ or look out for our new posters on the village noticeboards and outside the library.
New to the village or been here a while? Why not come along as a visitor, enjoy a pleasant evening and join in and find out more about us.
We offer a warm welcome to a range of events and activities with fun and friendship. For further information please contact our Membership Secretary, Carolyn Barnett, on [email protected]
