East Leake WI enjoy a variety of Christmas activities

05/02/2024 by Digital Media

During the run up to Christmas 2023 our WI members enjoyed a range of events and activities  starting with our WI Café at the East Leake Christmas Craft Fair.

After browsing the fantastic range of stalls, visitors were able to relax and enjoy a hot drink with some delicious cakes and savouries. We raffled a hamper and invited people to guess the weight of the Christmas Cake – we had two delighted lucky winners! We also donated a percentage of our takings to the Village Hall Committee to help with their programme of ongoing repairs.

Our annual Christmas Lunch was held at the Plough at Normanton on Soar this year where a very festive and enjoyable time was had by all. Members also attended the Soar Valley Group of WIs Carol Service at St James’ Church in Normanton on Soar where two representatives of our WI contributed with a reading and a poem. This chance to enjoy singing traditional Carols in good company was relished by members as well as the delicious refreshments afterwards.

Our December meeting was a festive social evening with “Chrimbo Bingo” complete with Christmassy bingo number calls, cheesy cracker jokes and prizes for lines and a full house. After all the hilarity, members had the chance to relax with mulled wine, mince pies and other festive treats.

We look forward to a happy and healthy 2024 with a full calendar of meals, coffee outings (some with cocktails!) theatre and cinema trips  and excursions to places of interest planned.

Our programme of speakers is  available on  our page on the village website https://east-leake.co.uk/east-leake-womens-institute/ or look out for our posters on the village noticeboards and outside the library.

New to the village or been here a while? Why not come along as a visitor, enjoy a pleasant evening and  join in and find out more about us. We offer a warm welcome to a range of events and activities with fun and friendship. For further information please contact our Membership Secretary, Carolyn Barnett, on [email protected]
