East Leake WI were delighted to welcome Graham Keale, a retired show business reporter, to our well attended monthly meeting in August.
His insight into his life as a journalist starting on a local newspaper interviewing the late, great Eric Morecambe after a charity cricket match through to flying out to the Carribean island of Grenada to meet with businessman Peter de Savary, was fascinating.
He then took us on a trip down memory lane with his many entertaining celebrity anecdotes about stars of the stage and screen across the world including Lulu, Valerie Singleton, Liz Hurley, and Oprah Winfrey who actually touched his elbow!
Our activities this month have included lunch at The Three Horseshoes, a very enjoyable get together for coffee at Rushcliffe Golf Club and a much anticipated trip to see “An Officer and a Gentleman” at the Theatre Royal in Nottingham.
Following the success of our Cinema WhatsApp Group, we are now in the process of setting up another for local trips out so that small groups of members can get together to attend village events and places of interest in the surrounding area.
After the business of the meeting, members had time to look through Graham Keane’s star studded albums over refreshments and to socialise, as well taking the chance to sign up for this month’s activities.
Our next monthly meeting is on Tuesday 10th September at 7.30pm in the village hall on Main Street when we will be holding a fun evening of Kurling (curling without ice)
Our programme of speakers is available on our page on the village website https://east-leake.co.uk/east-leake-womens-institute/ or look out for our posters on the village noticeboards and outside the library.
New to the village or been here a while? Why not come along as a visitor, enjoy a pleasant evening and join in and find out more about us. We offer a warm welcome to a range of events and activities with fun and friendship.
