From Chamberlain To Victory was Performed By Searchlight Theatre Company on Friday 12th November At St. Mary’s Church, East Leake.
On the evening of Friday 12th November, St. Mary’s Church in East Leake hosted an excellent evening of theatre and music from the Searchlight Theatre Company with over 60 people in attendance. The performance was in two Acts – Act One eloquently told the story of the challenges faced by Neville Chamberlain in 1939 at the outset of World War 2, and swaps between the BBC Studios and Downing Street in the run up to the broadcast by Chamberlain announcing the declaration of war with Germany.
In Act Two the story then moves on to the end of World War 2 where we see the challenges faced by families as they seek to adjust to life after the end of the war. The second Act centres around a street party with stories to tell behind the front doors.
During both Acts, the audience were entertained with some favourite wartime era songs from two former West End singers and a pianist who work with Searchlight.
The performance was an opportunity to reflect on that time in our country’s history and it linked in well with the timing of the Remembrance weekend, and the services of Remembrance held in East Leake on Sunday 14th November.
