Members of East Leake Allotment Association gathered on Saturday 15th August for their annual summer BBQ, enjoying an afternoon of good food, friendship and community spirit.

Plot holders and their families were treated to a selection of burgers, hot dogs and vegetarian options, with plenty of refreshments available throughout the event. The meal was followed by a tempting array of homemade cakes, including the now-famous creations of Carolann, which once again proved extremely popular with everyone in attendance.
There were games for adults and children alike, including Putting, Corn Hole and a ‘guess the number of sweets in the jar’ competition.
The event also provided an opportunity to recognise the hard work and dedication of members who help make the allotment site such a thriving and attractive community space. During the afternoon, Association Chairman James Lapworth presented the Chairman’s Award for Best Kept Plot 2026 to Katherine and Stephen Dawes of Plot 47b.
The award recognises the effort, commitment and high standards demonstrated throughout the year, and Katherine and Stephen’s plot was praised for its excellent cultivation, presentation and productivity.
Chairman James Lapworth said: “The annual BBQ is always one of the highlights of our calendar and it was wonderful to see so many members and their families enjoying the afternoon together. Congratulations to Katherine and Stephen on winning the Best Kept Plot Award. Their plot is a credit to them and to the Association.”
East Leake Allotment Association would like to thank everyone who helped organise the event, especially Georgina and Carolann, and all those who attended, helping to make it another successful and enjoyable occasion.
