Stanley, with the surrounding area, was historically agricultural. Coal, the making of bricks and quarry works followed, employing many of the district’s population.
The White Hart, in Stanley Village, Derbyshire, was recommended to me and I found it to be a most excellent country pub, having views of the surrounding countryside.
An open log fire enhances the enjoyment (when the temperature requires). The Beer Garden and Function Room prove very popular. Serving a really great selection of locally sourced, freshly prepared, home-cooked foods, along with a splendid range of drinks, I crossed the threshold.
On my visit I decided to dine. I opted for Chicken Goujons (Salad garnish, bbq sauce) to commence. This made an excellent start to the meal.
Choices for mains included Classics, From the Sea, From the Grill, Burgers, Salads, Sharers and more. I chose Hunter’s Chicken (Butterfly chicken breast, bbq sauce, Cheddar cheese, crispy bacon, chips, side salad) from the Classics options – which also included Steak & Ale Pie, plus Pan-Fried Chicken and Mushroom Stroganoff, amongst other selections. Tender, succulent, with complementing flavours and very well presented. Compliments, to Head Chef Jordon and team.
Desserts (worthwhile saving some space for) had me favouring Biscoff Cheesecake (Ice cream/custard). A perfect (towards) ending to my dining experience. Gift vouchers are available and parties/occasions easily accommodated. Rhythm of the Week (What’s On section, on website) has details of themed dining evenings – well worth a look! Thank you to Georgina, for her genuine welcome and excellent service, along with Diane and Will, throughout. Very much recommended.
As always, enjoy! Trevor Langley
