Footprints Charity Launch Competition To Design Richard Whitehead’s Running Blades!

24/07/2024 by Digital Media

On 29 September 2024 Footprints Charity Patron Richard Whitehead MBE will once again be officially starting the Robin Hood Half Marathon and taking part in the half marathon for Footprints. Richard has recently achieved the accolade of a Guinness World Record for the quickest marathon time for an athlete with bilateral knee amputations, and is training hard for the Autumn marathons.

To celebrate, Footprints is running a children’s competition to design the blades which Richard will run in. The charity ran the competition in 2023 and was a great success, receiving over 80 creative entries from children across the UK. Imogen’s design, a brilliant Robin Hood themed entry, was chosen by Richard and announced as the winner, with a number of runner ups due to the quality of entries. Richard recently visited Imogen’s school, Rushcliffe Spencer Academy in West Bridgford, as part of her prize.

Families can download the design template from the Footprints website and then scan/take a photo of their design and send it to [email protected]. The deadline is 8 August and Richard will then decide the winner, and the design will be produced, ready for Richard to wear on his running blades at the Robin Hood Half Marathon. The winner will also get the chance to come down to the Embankment in Nottingham, meet Richard on the day, and see the design in real life!

Footprints is proud to again be a Charity Partner of Robin Hood Marathon and has over 30 people in their team, taking part in both the Half and Mini Marathon. They also have a team of volunteers who will be manning the event village, working as marshals and cheering on all of the amazing runners. Last year the event raised over £13,000 for the Nottingham based charity and is one of the key events in their fundraising calendar, raising awareness and money.
