Council’s Shared Prosperity Fund grant will make Beeston shine

30/11/2024 by Digital Media

Mark your calendars! With the theme of ‘Poetry and Fire’, Beeston Light Night III will be on Saturday 25 January 2025 and will be a spectacular way to beat the winter blues and enjoy light installations and performances.

It coincides with Burns Night and will have nods to Scotland, beginning with the Address to a Haggis in the Square and a bagpiper playing with Nottingham Samba Band.

Broxtowe Borough Council has provided a grant of £14,290 through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) from the UK Government, with match funding from Beeston Civic Society (BCS).

It will be a cheering event for residents as the darkest days of winter drag on, boost support for local businesses and bring Beeston’s artistic talent to the fore.

This will be the third year that Beeston has had a Light Night. Last year saw over 8,000 people brave the rain to enjoy the installations and performances at venues on the High Road, The Square and Beeston Rylands. There was a pop-up market for local creatives, groups and makers. It was a great opportunity to support local businesses.

The organisers are keen to engage with local businesses to make the Beeston Light Night III the best ever. They are hoping that businesses can light up the front of their premises or make a ‘Poetry and Fire’ themed display. They are also looking for offers of support. Lots of people are expected to be out and about between 6pm and 9pm, so there will be opportunities for retailers and food outlets.

Councillor Milan Radulovic MBE, Council Leader and Portfolio Holder for Economic Development and Assets said: “January is always a quiet time for commerce and this year’s event will bring extra footfall to the town. Last year’s Light Night was a huge success, despite the weather and I hope we see even greater numbers. This is an excellent example of how the Council is working in partnership to support our local small businesses.”

Jeanie Barton from the Beeston Civic Society’s Street Art project said: “We will be delighted if local businesses and residents can get involved once again for Beeston Light Night III by illuminating their premises from 6-9pm on Saturday 25 January. With a nod to Scotland, our theme of ‘Fire and Poetry’ is encouraged but not necessary, as long as light is featured. It’s always a fun and vibrant evening across the town!”
