Councillors organise spectacular Easter Egg Hunt

09/04/2021 by Digital Media

Clifton East Councillors held a successful social distanced Easter Egg hunt on April 3 for local children thanks to egg donations.

Councillor for Clifton East Maria Watson said, “This year has been very different to previous years with lockdown, we felt it was only right that we try to put smiles onto children’s faces and sought permission to put on a socially distanced Easter egg hunt and clearing it with our local Police team.”

In March, the Councillors advertised the event asking for Easter Egg donations. Altogether, they gathered over 500 chocolate eggs! Some eggs were donated to children in foster placements, to elderly individuals living alone and to Good Companions – a Clifton based organisation. The remaining eggs were saved for the Easter egg hunt.

Maria continued, “During the month of March, the community donated over 400 Easter eggs and Clifton East Councillors donated 100.”

Time slots for the big Easter Egg hunt were fully booked within 3 hours of them being advertised. The event was run by Councillors and volunteers, taking place from 8:45am and running through until 4pm which included 8 dedicated time slots, meaning they could observe government guidelines.

Maria said, “On Saturday 3rd April we sectioned off 3 parts of Clifton Flower Park and allowed up to 8 children at a time in each section to hunt for little eggs which they could then exchange for an Easter egg, and if they found a golden egg they got two eggs!

“It was a fabulous event and there were many happy children at the end.

“Clifton has been amazing with the amount of eggs gifted from individuals to businesses donating.

“We would like to thank everyone that helped, hopefully next year we can make the Egg Hunt even bigger and allow more children to take part.”

Following the event, a selection of Easter Eggs were left over so the Councillors kindly handed them out on April 5 to adults and children passing by in Clifton.
