19 year-old from Cotgrave in World Ball Hockey Tournament

04/10/2022 by Digital Media

Amy Stevenson from Cotgrave was selected to represent Great Britain in the under 20s Ball Hockey team at the World Ball Hockey Championships held in the Czech Republic 21-25 July 2022.

This year the teams from the USA, Canada and Slovakia were unable to travel to the Czech Republic which meant the tournament was between the GB team and two teams from the host nation.

The GB team beat the first Czech team 2-1, with Amy scoring the winning goal, and then won their match against the second Czech team 2-0, which gave the under 20s team their first tournament win in the 5 years they have been playing in the Championships.

Amy was also picked by the GB coaches as player of the tournament.

This year the players had the opportunity to spend some of their time at a hockey training camp, which involved shooting, dribbling and rebound drills as well as using exercise equipment to train. There was also time to play a friendly game of football and socialise with the Czech Republic players.

The GB team members have to fund their own travel, accommodation, meals, sporting insurance and the cost of their hockey kit. Amy held a coffee morning and cake sale at Cotgrave Methodist Church that raised £400 and received sponsorship of her kit, £500 from the Nottingham and Derby District of the Methodist Church and another £100 from WF Glazing Protection Ltd.

Amy is already looking forward to the 2023 World Ball Hockey Championships.
