Construction of a new all-weather court at the Chilwell Memorial Institute, High Road Chilwell, is well underway.
Contractors have been working on site for the last two weeks removing all the earth and replacing it with a base layer of gravel. The court will then be left to settle before the final surface is laid down.
“The prospect of our new court taking shape has been very exciting,” said Trish Roberts-Thomson, the Chair of the Institute.
“We look forward to welcoming the new walking netball club to their first match on a proper court – once we can all get back to playing our chosen sports.”
The new court will also provide a hard surface tennis court for the Tennis Club.
The £80,000 project has been funded by Sport England along with the Notts County Council and the Institute.
Walking netball has been very enthusiastically supported since it was introduced over twelve months ago and the Netball Club are keen to welcome more players – either women or men.
The construction of the all-weather court is part of a wide-ranging upgrade of all the facilities at the Institute undertaken over the last few years.
The Hall has new lighting and kitchen facilities, a refurbished floor, as well as new chairs.
The Institute is closed at the moment due to coronavirus but if anyone would like to join walking netball or any other of the activities there please see ‘Contact Us’ on our website http://www.chilwellmemorialhall.co.uk/
