In May, a red Mailbox received a special make-over by a local resident, did you spot it?
Clifton resident Wendy Sheldon got creative with crochet and made a cosy knit cover for the Royal Mail post box outside the old Clifton Pastures Post Office on Farnborough Road.
Wendy said, “I think I am the first person in the Clifton area to do this kind of project. I’ve seen something similar done on television so I thought I might give it a go myself. I’m definitely no expert at crocheting!
“I make it up as I go along and had no pattern. It took me only a couple of days in my spare time. I sent my brother down to the post box first to get the diameter measurements with his tape measure.
Wendy finished and adorned the post box with her new fun pattern on Sunday 16th May. During its instalment, many locals gave high praise for the new post box look.
She continued, “On Sunday afternoon when my brother and myself put it on the pillow-box, we had the tram drivers sounding their horns, and giving us a wave and smiling at us, also people passing by said it looked good for the community in Clifton.
“I hoped it would cheer people up a bit, and I also wanted it to say thank you to the Royal Mail Postal workers for collecting and delivering our mail during COVID 19.”
