Sewa Day Nottingham have launched a shoebox appeal this Christmas.
Sewa Day Nottingham is a charity which focused on doing acts of kindness selflessly. Over the last 18 months in response to the pandemic, we have supported various foodbanks with over 100 tonnes of food, cooked over 50,000 hot meals for vulnerable and homeless people, distributed activity packs and Easter eggs to children and families alongside Xmas presents for survivors of domestic violence, homeless people, teenagers, young carers and children and families. You can find the details of our work on social media on – https://www.facebook.com/sewadaynotts/
Last year, on the weekend of 12th December, a team of volunteers came together to sort and pack the Xmas shoeboxes with gifts at West Bridgford Methodist Church. This event received plenty of media attention and we were featured on BBC East Midlands Today and ITV News Central. Articles about the impact of the project are available on the West Bridgford Wire, the Derby Telegraph and the YMCA website.
None of this would have been possible without the support of members of the community. At the end of a very difficult year, together we made a huge difference to those in need. We are planning to run this appeal again this Christmas along with Communities Working Together and we hope that you will consider supporting us again. For updates please follow us on Facebook: Christmas Gifts in a Shoebox.
This year we plan to pack over 1000 shoeboxes at the Edwalton Church Hall and the recipients will be the foodbank users from the Rushcliffe area, homeless people in Nottingham City and County, survivors of domestic violence in Nottingham City and County, Young Carers, Teenagers, Care Leavers, children in need etc.
We would like for people to get involved and for them to wrap a shoebox filled with presents for any of the categories below:
- Children who are vulnerable
- Survivors of domestic violence
- Men (homeless)
- Teenagers (care leavers, vulnerable)
- Homeless people living in hostels
Alternatively, we are happy to just collect donations of things if you don’t have shoe boxes. No donation is too small!!
We are happy to collect the wrapped shoeboxes from you or you can contact us directly on 07581 422396 or 07739 296582 and drop these shoeboxes to various drop off points in the City and County.
Last year we packed almost 1000 shoeboxes and this year we have the same target!
We will be packing on 12th December in Edwalton and would ideally like to collect the shoeboxes or receive them by 1st December.
Sewa Day’s Hetvi Parekh said, “Little drops of water make the might ocean. In the same manner, little acts of kindness make a massive impact in people’s lives.”
