Choirs Join Forces to Raise Money for Charity

26/06/2023 by Digital Media

Following a successful concert in St Luke’s Church last month, which raised over £1,000 for West Bridgford Social Singers’ chosen charities (Hear Together and St Paul’s Memory Cafe) a further fund raising event took place on 13th May.

Twelve runners and 17 cyclists, along with a group of walkers from WBSS and ECS (Everyone Can Sing) participated in the ‘Memory Cafe Marathon’. The 26.2 mile route started in Radcliffe on Trent, pausing for refreshments at 4 Memory Cafes where they were cheered on by supporters from both choirs, and ended in Eastwood.

“It was a wonderful community event,” said Simon Thompson, event organiser and musical director of both choirs. “Friends know this cause is very personal to many people, and if we can raise awareness and funds for these marvellous organisations, we can make a difference.”

The original aim was to raise £3,000 to help 4 Memory Cafes in Radcliffe, West Bridgford, Beeston and Eastwood as well as two other local charities, Hear Together and FareShare. However, the final total reached was a fantastic £6,000!
