Starting in November 2008 an event has been held every year in St Mary’s Church, East Leake to raise money for 10 well known national and local charities. Originally the 10 stalls sold mostly Charity Christmas Cards but over the years the stall holders have included other Christmas things, including Calendars, Advent Calendars, Diaries, Wrapping paper, novelty Christmas socks, jewelry and other small gifts.
Poppies for Remembrance Sunday are also available.
The 10 stalls fit comfortably into the space in church and most charities return each year and enjoy the happy atmosphere of the morning as well as raising much needed funds for their charity. Refreshments are available too.
Among our regular stall holders are Save the Children, Sue Ryder, Christian Aid, Cancer Research, Love Russia (children’s orphanages in Russia), The Children’s Society, Mothers Union, Rainbows, The Ear Foundation, Framework (a homeless charity) and last year Oxfam came for the first time and will have a stall this year too.
The event this year is on Friday November 8th, 9.45am – 12 noon at St Mary’s Church, East Leake and everyone is invited to support this very worthwhile event raising money for people less fortunate than ourselves.
