Changes to Broxtowe Car Park Charges

08/01/2024 by Digital Media

From 1 January 2024 new car parking charges will come in to effect in the Borough of Broxtowe.

Members at Cabinet approved the move to new car parking charges which will be the first change since 2010. Members were informed that the current charges do not cover the cost of providing and maintaining the Council’s car parks. The new charges will help to address the deficit and allow the Council to invest the money to ensure that the facilities provided remain fit for purpose.

Portfolio Holder for Resources and Personnel Councillor Greg Marshall said: “As residents know, Councils are facing huge pressures on budgets due to cuts from central government and we’re always looking for ways to cover the cost of our services. We believe that these changes to our car parking charges will allow the Council to invest in our facilities and prevent cuts to jobs and services. This means we can deliver on our commitments to keep our town centres clean, invest in new facilities like changing places toilets and help in our wider ambition of providing new leisure facilities.”

Residents are assured that there is no intention to introduce charges on Sundays and between 10pm and 8am in all car parks within the Borough. In addition, the four car parks that are currently free all day Saturday and Sunday will remain free.

Free all day Saturday and Sunday:

  • Devonshire Avenue, Beeston
    • Oxford Street, Eastwood
    • Victoria Street, Kimberley
    • Halls Road, Stapleford

The following car parks will remain free Monday to Sunday inclusive:

  • Alexandra Street, Eastwood
    • James Street, Kimberley
    • Station Road, Kimberley
    • Newdigate Street, Kimberley

Residents will also benefit from a new tariff in short stay car parks of £3 for up to 6 hours, allowing visitors more time to visit restaurants and cinema facilities, where previously this would have cost £15 for over 3 hours.

The new charges will be as follows:

Short stay: charges up to 10pm

  • £1 for up to 2 hours
    • £2 for up to 3 hours
    • £3 for up to 6 hours
    • £15 for over 6 hours

Long stay: no change to the all-day charge in car parks with the following tariffs:

  • £1 all day
    • £2 all day

Other charges to note in various car parks throughout each town centre

  • Train station multi-day tariff remains the same
    • Disabled drivers – free all day

Broxtowe are committed to closely monitoring the impacts of these changes to help ensure the right balance is struck.
