Rivendell View care home in Stoke Bardolph have partnered up with Rivendell Flying High Academy to initiate a rewards scheme for school children and encourage them to read more.
The initiative, Rivendell Rewards, challenges the children to complete 200 reading sessions throughout the school year. When they complete all 200 sessions, the children receive a ‘Rivendell Reward’ from the care home.
The first Rivendell Reward, which was offered to nine children for reading 200 times, was a movie and snacks afternoon in Rivendell View’s plush cinema room, where the children chose to watch Harry Potter.
During the film, the children were treated to a buffet of popcorn and lots of snacks. One of the children, George, said, ‘I’ve had the best afternoon; we should do this all the time!’
Lisa Tungate, the Home Manager at Rivendell View, said: “It was such a pleasure to invite our first group of Rivendell Rewards recipients to our home for their special treat!
“It’s so important to us to be involved in our local community, so we’re very excited about the Rivendell Rewards initiative and hope it encourages the younger generation to read more often.”
