03/08/2023 by Digital Media

On Monday the 24th of July, Helen Taylor celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by her family and friends at the Manor House in Radcliffe on Trent.

Helen was born in Troon, Scotland but came to Radcliffe on Trent in 1946, where she met her husband at the Palais de Dance in Nottingham.

The pair married in her home town in 1947 and returned to the village where they lived above their shop, Harold Taylors, which they ran until 1984.

Their son Brian was born in 1952 and their daughter Valerie in 1958.Alvyn died in 2002 and now has a memorial bench located outside Peak Wellbeing.

Speaking with Helen on her special day, she said “It is wonderful to have so many people here with me to celebrate my birthday, and I’m very proud to receive a card from the new King of England.”

Over the years, The Manor House nursing home has celebrated a number of 100th birthdays. Helen’s made history in the home by receiving the first ever card from His Majesty the King.
