Autumn is starting to show itself, with nights getting longer – it won’t be long until it’s lights on at teatime – so how about a series of beautifully illustrated talks by passionate and knowledgeable wildlife lovers brought straight to your homes? That’s what Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust’s South Notts Local Group are promising with their annual Winter Wildlife Talks Programme, over the next six months.
Starting on Thursday 3rd October, Sara Frost of Naturetrek will take us to the beautiful Azores, to explore the whales and dolphins that are found there, as well as some of the area’s stunning landscapes.
November 14th sees Stephen Powles show that contrary to some recent tabloid media reports about them, our native Hornets are truly fascinating gentle giants, who are entirely beneficial to us, and may actually play a positive role in the production and flavour of our wines!
On December 5th, Alan Archer describes the incredible 65 million year journey that culminated in the garden birds we enjoy today: from Tyrannosaurus Rex to Troglodytes troglodytes.
The New Year brings advice on how we can all help protect our native wildlife, both now and for future generations when on January 9th Ian Bedford describes how home gardens can become natural stepping stones for our wildlife, as part of a drive to connect protected areas across the country.
February 6th brings a different perspective, as David Chapman brings together his dramatic photography and lifelong experiences of the UK’s wonderful wildlife with their equally wonderful sounds.
The Programme ends on March 6th when Blair Watson describes Stronger Shores, an innovative new project exploring the potential for ‘nature-based solutions’ to be used in reducing coastal erosion in the North East.
Each talk starts at 7pm, and will be available online through Zoom (some may be available as recordings), and cost £4 per device, not per person; subscribe to all six for £20 (both options include booking fee).
