More than one-thousand pounds was raised for the Friary homelessness charity by an event to remember the legendary football manager Brian Clough, twenty years after he passed away.
Around 100 people attended the special ‘Green Jumper’ Cloughie tribute at the Lutterell Hall in West Bridgford, Nottingham.
The multi-media Q&A event featured best-selling author and Green Jumper pod host Marcus Alton interviewed by the compere for the evening, Neil Kendrick. Marcus also played a special recorded message from Brian’s son Simon.
“It was an incredible evening, and quite emotional too,” said Marcus. “The audience reaction was wonderful and it was great to raise funds for the type of good cause Cloughie supported.”
Marcus, who has written five books about the former Nottingham Forest manager, recalled behind-the-scenes stories about Brian, including the times he interviewed him.
He also spoke about his latest book, ‘Brian Clough The Lost Tapes,’ which is helping to raise money for Nottinghamshire Hospice and the children’s charity, the NSPCC.
The Chief Executive of the Friary, Ben Talbot, said: “The evening was a huge success. With Marcus’ wonderful stories and over £1,000 being raised, it was certainly a fitting tribute to a man who supported many good causes and put Nottingham on the map.
“As a charity, we are grateful for the sponsorship of West Bridgford Colts FC to stage this tribute event, as well as all those people who came along to support it and those who gave up their time to make it happen.”
An auction of memorabilia included a signed shirt donated by Nottingham Forest, as well as signed photos of Nottingham Forest legends John Robertson and Colin Barrett. The auction alone raised over £250.
Marcus hosts the tribute podcast ‘Green Jumper,’ which has thousands of listeners in 80 countries. He was also the driving force behind the fund-raising campaign for the Brian Clough bronze statue which stands proudly in Nottingham city centre.
