The Artistic Swimming section of Bramcote Swimming Club has just won the National Artistic Swimming Club of the Year and Performance Coach of the Year for Head Coach Lenka Tanner at the annual Swim England Awards.
On Saturday, 30th November amidst the glitter of the University of Birmingham’s Aston Webb Great Hall, members of Swim England – the governing body for Aquatics – came together from all across England to celebrate and honour those who have contributed to all aspects of aquatics.
New this year was the award for Performance Coach in each of the aquatic disciplines and it was a real delight to find out Bramcote AquaStars’ very own Head Coach, Lenka Tanner, won the inaugural award. This win was very shortly followed by a win for Bramcote AquaStars as a whole in the category of Artistic Swimming Club of the Year!
Club Captain Victoria Evans who attended the awards said: “We’re so pleased. Everyone at the club works so hard and the coaches are so supportive, so it feels great to be recognized for everyone’s efforts.”
Head Coach Lenka said: “I am so honoured to have won the coaching award, but even more so for our AquaStars family to be given the top club award as recognition for all the hard work put in by everyone over the last year and beyond to build a friendly and successful Artistic Swimming Club in Nottingham.
“I am so proud of all of us and hope this grows awareness for this amazing, but not well known sport! I also hope the recently announced re-build of Bramcote Leisure Centre, our home-base, will ensure the depth meets the required standard for our sport (2m) so we can continue to build on all of our successes so far!”
Special guest, Isabelle Thorpe, Paris Olympic Silver Medalist in Artistic Swimming, also made an appearance at the awards to discuss her winning moments at this Summer’s Olympics. AquaStar Victoria said: “It was amazing to hear from Izzy Thorpe and her experience at Paris this summer. She’s a big inspiration for everyone at the club so it was really great to meet her and hear her speak.”
