The Bingham Writing Group is celebrating its first five years. Founded in 2015 by Hilda Smith, since retired. We have a core group of around twelve members who, collectively, have published nine books. We aim to run two workshops a year, plus days out in the spring and summer.
In July 2019 we visited a care home in Melton and members of the group read a selection of their short stories. We were warmly welcomed and rewarded with coffee and homemade cake – scrumptious. Later in the year we went on a Bingham heritage trail and learned some interesting facts about our village, dating back several centuries. We then went back brimming with ideas for new short stories. Did you know there were highwaymen in and around Bingham in 1784?
Our planned events for the remainder of this year include a trip to Greens windmill and a visit to Clumber Park, we might even take part in their short story competition, who knows.
Our members range from early 20’s to pensioners – and many in between! Everyone is welcome, whatever your interest or level of experience. Poetry, short stories, children and young adult books, anthologies or just scribbling for fun. At the moment the group is exploring the possibility of audiobooks. One of our younger members has a sound-proof recording booth set up in his bedroom!
We meet every first Tuesday at The Gallery, 8 Long Acre. From 2 – 4 pm. Contact 01949 875926.
