West Bridgford-based Nottingham Concert Band is delighted to have been invited to take part in a fund-raising ‘Big Band Bash’ on Sunday 26 January. Running all afternoon at Oakleigh Lodge Social Club, Highbury Vale, the event is in aid of the Radford Care Group and is dedicated to the memory of vintage music fan Brian Fisher, whose daughter Lucy is a member of the band’s clarinet section.
Starting at 12.30pm, the vintage-themed ‘bash’ will be introduced by vocalist Jayne Darling, with the afternoon’s entertainment including a quiz, a raffle and a classic afternoon tea. Nottingham Concert Band takes to the stage at 2.00pm and MD Robert Parker promises to lead the 50-strong band through a playlist ranging from Count Basie and Glenn Miller to Stevie Wonder, Michael Bublé and timeless toe-tappers from the rock & roll era.
‘There’ll be something for everyone,’ says Lucy and her family. ‘The bar will be open, tea and coffee will be flowing – and vintage 40s-50s dress is optional!’
Oakleigh Lodge Social Club is located at 1 Highbury Road, Highbury Vale, Nottingham NG6 9DD, with easy access to public transport and ample off-road parking.
