Well planned racing brings a solid result for Becket Rowing Club team at Junior Sculling Regatta, Dorney Lake, Eton, 31st May, 2021.

LtoR: James Edgar, Daniel Butler (both of Becket School in West Bridgford), Emma Croydon, Olivia Collier- Harrod, Emily Besley .(all of Nottingham Girls’ High School)
Team get a Silver and a Bronze in the face of tough competition from schools and clubs UK-wide.
J16 Single Sculls: Silver Medal for James Edgar and 11th placing for Daniel Butler, both students at Becket School, provided well- deserved results for these boys following consistent training in recent weeks; this was effectively their first race ever in a large event. Their field of 18 scullers came from large schools and club squads.
WJ15 single sculls: with 8 other scullers to race in her draw, Emily Besley, a student at Nottingham Girls’ High School, achieved the bronze medal position in the A Final after holding off relentless pressure from the 4th placed Hinksey sculler, working through the strong cross-headwind.
WJ15 double sculls: Fellow NGHS students Emma Croydon and Olivia Collier-Harrod, entered in what is always a hotly contested event, racing in the ‘B’ Final, placed 10th out of 24 crews, setting their personal best performances, like their team-mates, since racing pre-Covid.
All the crews have benefited from training on the NWSC Holme Pierrepont Rowing Lake, where the water conditions may often test the athletes’ technique in wind and wave. This trains them to meet any conditions which a regatta venue might produce on race day.
Thanks as ever go to our current Sponsors of Becket RC: Geoffrey Bond OBE, DL; and Frank Key Building Supplies Ltd without whom the Junior athletes would not be able to realise their dreams on the water.
