April news from Plastic Free Cotgrave

31/03/2021 by Digital Media

Plastic Free Cotgrave is a local organisation consisting of a small group of volunteers dedicated to reducing single-use plastics in Cotgrave.

In their first year, the group has:

  • Set up a Steering group; secured the support of the Town Council; established an invaluable relationship with their first Community Allies, Cotgrave Community Garden; and welcomed their first 4 Business Champions – Kerry’s Fresh, The Simpler Life zero waste shop, Sally Bates Educational Consultant and Jayne Childs handmade lace gifts and cards.
  • Held two public events: How to Do Zero Waste and The Problem with Plastic
  • Presented talks to both the Cotgrave WI and the Patient Participation Group at the Health Centre.
  • Through their website, Facebook page and their closed group, they have been able to keep the community informed and have generated a considerable following.

A ‘visit’ from Greenpeace: ‘The Problem With Plastic’

A second online, public event took place on Monday 15th March: an online discussion about plastics in the environment, with Maisie English from Greenpeace as the speaker. You can watch a recording of the talk online here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLeb6Ki883I&t=3s

Crisp Packet Collection

This continues to go well, raising money for Ash Lea School in Cotgrave and recycling otherwise non-recyclable crisp packets, through the Terracycle scheme.  Thank you to all of you who take your flattened packets to the collection point at Cotgrave Welfare.  There are 3 videos on Youtube to help you with this: Crisp Packets 1  Crisp Packets 2  Crisp Packets 3
