Saturday 30th November saw East Leake Light up with the Christmas Light Switch on along with an array of other fantastic festivities organised and supplied by local businesses in the community.
The village event began at 11am with a Christmas craft fair, a 2k Santa Fun Run, award ceremonies, a visit from Santa, choirs, a nativity and a selection of great food and drink, then later the big countdown that lead to the East Leake Lights Switch On. What a brilliant day of entertainment and fun for all ages, ending 2019 on a high.
Congratulations to the winner of the Local Community Award winner, Conrad Oatey.
Members of the East Leake Traders Association came together to put on this great community event, with local businesses supplying many of the food, drink, events and activities that were on offer throughout the day.
There were different stalls from hook a duck, Santa’s grotto and mulled wine being served at different shops around the village.

The Young Enterprise students from East Leake Academy were also there selling Christmas gifts made out of recycled bottles. Santa’s team came from Elaps (East Leake Amateur Players) drama group.
Previous weather forced Physioneeds to sadly cancel part of the Santa fun run, but the 2k run still pulled in an impressive 93 participants raising an incredible £420 for Prostate Cancer UK.
The East Leake Traders posted a lovely thank you message on their Facebook page shortly after the event which said, “A big thank you to everyone who turned out in the cold and foggy weather yesterday.
“It’s so lovely that the village comes out and joins in the celebrations and our beautiful village is twinkling once again for a month.
“This wouldn’t be possible without all the help of our volunteers so to all the traders, non-traders council volunteers, Elaps (the drama group), craft fayre organisers, runners, Sleigh drivers, Leakie and our MC Tracey Waterfield a big big thank you.
“By supporting your local village shops and businesses not just at Christmas but the rest of the year enables us to put that extra effort into making all this possible. East Leake is one of the best places to live! HAPPY FESTIVE SEASON From everyone at East Leake Traders”
The cold weather didn’t dampen spirits with an impressive turnout, making the 2019 festive event one of the best ones yet.
