Starboy Thomas is an award-winning rapper with a difference, he spreads positive and important messages through his music. His debut single was an anti-bullying song with 1.3 million plays on Youtube and over 400 million plays on Soundcloud and he even does work with charities.
Nottingham Local News caught up with West Bridgford based rapper Starboy Thomas to find out more about him, his music and his message.
Q1. How old were you when you took an interest in rapping?
I have always been interested in rapping ever since I was a child, but I began rapping myself in 2017.
Q2. What are your songs about and which of your songs means the most to you?
Most of my songs are about important issues and subjects to promote awareness such as Mental Health, Anti Bulling, Drink Driving, Anti Knife Crime, Speeding on the Roads, etc. The songs that mean the most to me are my Bullying song and My Anti Knife Crime song as they are very big subjects.
Q3. What made you decide to use your music to help others?
I think music should always be spoken from the heart and there doesn’t seem to be many rappers out there that spread positive messages, I wanted to portray a positive and unique spin within the rap industry.
Q4. What is your most memorable moment since starting out?
When I was touring in Hungary, I was brought up on stage by two very big music artists to rap with them and I had no idea, it was a big surprise! Also, it would have to be having the opportunity to perform my Anti Knife Crime song at the NEA (National Entertainment Awards) in London in December 2019, it was an honour.
Q5. What is your favourite thing about Nottingham?
Most of my family are from here and still reside in Nottingham, I’m a huge fan of Nottingham Forest and I love the annual Goose Fair.
Q6. What do you hope for the future?
I would like to spread my positive messages through Rap music out to as many people as possible, hopefully even around the world, I want to show that rap music can have a true and positive meaning and it can even help people.
