A Bingham care home has been receiving scam awareness training to help residents understand the potential for fraud, and to avoid being ripped off by scammers.
Age UK’s Scam Prevention and Wellbeing Advisor, John Bryan, recently visited HC-One’s Fosse Way View care home to deliver his session on Scam Prevention. He advised attendees on how to protect themselves from online, telephone and doorstep scams.
Liz Wood, Home Manager of Fosse Way View, said: “There has been a rise in the number of cases of scams in the UK, especially targeting the older age group.
“Lots of our residents here at Fosse Way View use their personal devices, such as iPads, tablets, computers, and mobile phones to stay connected to their loved ones.
“This was a great opportunity to learn about ways to protect themselves from scams.”
Yvonne Kennedy, Fosse Way View resident, said: “This was very interesting. I am going to share all of this information to my son, so he can pass it on too.”
As well as the Fosse Way View residents, members of the local Bingham community were also invited to the session.
Sharon Oliver (photo below), a Bingham resident whose father has been targeted by online scams said: “This was interesting, useful and I would recommend everyone attends one of these sessions.”
